Parliament, Monday, 27 July 2026 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Xola Nqola, has noted from media reports the resignation of the head of the Independent Directorate Against Corruption, Adv Andrea Johnson.
He also welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s agreement after a recommendation by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi, and supported by National Director of Public Prosecutions (NPA) Adv Andy Mothibi, that Adv Johnson’s request be granted.
Mr Nqola also noted Adv Johnson’s appeal for allegations against her to be proven and thanked her for her years of service in the NPA, and as the head of IDAC. Although Adv Johnson has tendered her resignation she remains under subpoena to testify at the Madlanga Commission.
“We are certain as the committee that Adv Johnson will be replaced by a capable South African to fill the vacancy she leaves and that the work of the NPA will not be negatively affected by Adv Johnson’s departure. Furthermore, we are hoping that the might of justice will not be weakened by the resignation of Adv Johnson,” said Mr Nqola.
