Parliament, Tuesday, 8 April 2025 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies, Ms Khusela Sangoni Diko has, on behalf of the committee, reminded members of the public and institutions about a looming deadline for nominations of suitable persons to fill the two vacancies for non-executive members of the Board of the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA), in terms of Section 4 of the MDDA Act, 2002 (Act No. 14 of 2002).
The deadline for nominations is on Friday, 11 April 2025 at 16:00, and no late submissions will be considered. The MDDA was created to enable historically disadvantaged and marginalised communities and persons to gain access to the media. The beneficiaries are community and small commercial media operations.
In terms of the MDDA Act, a board member should be a South African citizen who resides permanently in the Republic and is committed to fairness, freedom of expression, openness and accountability, and who is also representative of a broad cross-section of the general population.
