Parliament, Wednesday, 22 April 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) today expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the late Mr Sandile Ngoqo, the son of Nelson Mandela Bay Metro’s acting City Manager, Mr Lonwabo Nqoqo.
According to media reports, Mr Ngoqo was one of two young men who were fatally shot last week, in what is believed to have been a violent criminal attack linked to a suspected hijacking in Gqeberha.
The Chairperson of the committee, Dr Zweli Mkhize, said the committee is profoundly saddened by this loss of life. “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Ngoqo family, as well as to the family of the second victim,” he said. “No family should have to endure the pain of losing a loved one in such a senseless and brutal manner. We stand in solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.”
The committee also called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
ISSUED BY THE PARLIAMENTARY COMMUNICATION SERVICES ON BEHALF OF THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON COOPERATIVE GOVERNANCE AND TRADITIONAL AFFAIRS, DR ZWELI MKHIZE.
