Parliament, Tuesday, 5 December 2023 – The Ad Hoc Committee on the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill today received inputs from the National Intelligence Coordinating Committee (NICOC) on the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill (GILAB).
NICOC proposed various inputs on the Bill, including an amendment to the committee’s powers, human resources and financial management and reporting of the Office of the Coordinator, among other things, in order to strengthen the committee. NICOC’s inputs demonstrate the need for stronger legislative reforms to ensure the entity’s independence, which will guarantee its functionality.
The committee will engage further on NICOC’s inputs when it deliberates on the Bill after the public participation process.
