GENERAL

  • Only accredited media, in possession of accreditation tags, will have access to the parliamentary precinct on Friday, 16 February
  • Refreshments will be served to accredited media in the foyer of the Imbizo Centre from 12.00 to 16.00. The Imbizo Centre is in the 120 Plein Street building. Entry is from Parliament Street, opposite the Old Assembly Building
  • A final briefing on arrangements takes place at 14.00 also in the Imbizo Centre in 120 Plein Street Building
  • Designation of media to specific areas for the ceremony leading up to the Address has been determined on the basis of available space and an equitable selection from the list of accredited media
  • A representative group of accredited media have been allocated seats in the media bays of the National Assembly Chamber. These bays can accommodate only 66 people. The allocation of the 66 seats has been handled in collaboration with the parliamentary Press Gallery Association
  • There is also a pool of photographers designated to photograph the President’s delivery of the Address in the National Assembly Chamber
  • Parliament based journalists whose media houses have offices in the precinct must ensure their accreditation shows right of access to their offices. Media accredited to be in the National Assembly Chamber media bays must also ensure their accreditation indicates this
  • Media must proceed to the areas for which they are accredited, when the red carpet is closed for crossing and the ceremony gets underway. The red carpet is closed for walking across from 17.45
  • Media accredited for the media bays of the National Assembly Chamber and photographers accredited to photograph the President delivering the Address in the Assembly Chamber must be in the National Assembly Building by 17.50

MEDIA IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY CHAMBER

  • Media accredited with access to the media bays in the National Assembly Chamber must be seated in the National Assembly Chamber by 18.00. Filming is not allowed
  • Photographers and broadcast media accredited with access to stationary/fixed positions in the National Assembly Chamber foyer or the National Assembly Chamber’s public gallery must be in position by 17.30
  • Due to space constraints, photographers in the pool accredited to the designated aisles in the National Assembly Chamber will be allowed in six at a time. A designated official will manage an equitable rotation of the accredited photographers
  • Flash photography and use of tripods is not allowed

BROADCAST MEDIA AND LIVE FEEDS

All accredited broadcast media may obtain live feeds from Parliament’s Broadcast and Audio Visual Technical Support Unit and the Government Communication System. Please contact Mado Sefora on 083 298 2476

OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH AFTER THE STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS

This is restricted to ANN7, eNCA, SABC, Parliament videographer, Parliament official photographer, GCIS official photographer, photographers accredited to be in the National Assembly Chamber. Parliament and GCIS will make images available to all media

PLEASE DO

  • Display your accreditation tag and wear the bib issued to you at all times while in the Parliamentary precinct
  • Keep three (3) metres away from the red carpet at all times during processions
  • Follow guidance from media management and security officials
  • Conduct on-the-spot interviews, film and photograph only in areas where there is no obstruction of movement

PLEASE DON’T

  • Leave the parliamentary precinct once you have entered, unless it is absolutely necessary
  • Try to bring people or structures onto the parliamentary precinct for which you have not received permission. They will not be allowed
  • Behave in a manner that disrupts the ceremony and proceedings
  • Crowd or block entry to Poorthuys or the National Assembly building after the State of the Nation Address has ended and Members and guests start to leave. A designated space for interviews will be clearly marked
  • Try to enter areas for which you have not been accredited
  • Erect temporary structures on the Parliamentary precinct for which you have not received permission
  • Use a flash or tripod when photographing inside the National Assembly Chamber
