Parliament, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 – The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) will tomorrow meet with the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the National Initiation Oversight Committee and the Eastern Cape Provincial Initiation Coordinating Committee on the outcomes of the winter initiation season.
This follows an induction workshop on the same topic that was held last month. The department informed the committee at the time that 35 initiates died during the 2024 winter season, with 14 of those being from the Eastern Cape and six from Mpumalanga.
