Parliament, Sunday, 1 March 2026 – The Select Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Mineral Resources, along with the nine provincial legislatures, will conduct an oversight visit to Onderstepoort Biological Products tomorrow.

The Chairperson of the committee, Mr Mpho Modise, said the committee deemed it prudent to visit the facility following a workshop held over the weekend with the nine provincial legislatures. The workshop focused on foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

The committee will conduct an oversight visit to receive a first-hand on-site report on how the OBP facility intends to distribute and administer the vaccines in affected areas. As widely reported in the media, nearly 1 million vaccine doses have arrived and been transported to the OBP facility to help in the fight against FMD.

Mr Modise noted the arrival of the first major consignment of one million FMD vaccine doses sourced from Biogénesis Bagó in Argentina, along with an additional 1.5 million doses from the Turkey-based manufacturer Dollvet, which arrived on Sunday, 1 March. The committee’s oversight visit to OBP is to understand the facility's plans for distributing vaccines and to learn more about its operations.
