Parliament, Monday, 23 March 2026 - The Select Committee on Social Services will, from 25 to 26 March 2026, undertake an oversight visit to public health facilities in the Free State Province to assess progress and challenges relating to infrastructure development and to engage with the Provincial Department of Health on measures to address identified gaps.
The oversight will focus on the state of health facility infrastructure, including requirements for upgrades, construction and refurbishment; project management and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects; maintenance of facilities, including reliance on external service providers and water supply; and the adequacy of facilities for healthcare personnel.
The select committee will further interrogate the expenditure of conditional grants, the impact of budget cuts or misallocation of funds on infrastructure projects, and the implications of infrastructure challenges on the provision of quality healthcare services. The visit will enable the committee to develop actionable recommendations to strengthen infrastructure delivery and improve access to quality healthcare services.
As part of the programme, the committee will conduct in loco visits within the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality to assess conditions on the ground.
