Parliament, Monday, 1 June 2026 – The Select Committee on Public Petitions and Executive Undertakings will, on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, reconvene a hearing into a petition concerning governance and operational challenges at uThukela Water (Pty) Ltd.
The hearing follows a petition submitted by the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU), raising concerns about governance and operational matters at uThukela Water.
The petition called for the National Council of Provinces’ intervention in uThukela District Municipality’s alleged failure to implement recommendations contained in a forensic investigation report commissioned by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
SAMWU’s petition alleges, amongst other things, that uThukela Water failed to implement the recommendations contained in the forensic report relating to incidents of racism, and further claims that a group of white-owned companies were being awarded contracts by uThukela Water.
