Parliament, Tuesday, 11 August 2026 – The Select Committee on Agriculture Land Reform and Mineral Resources will conduct a follow-up oversight visit to the North-West Province (Mmabatho) from 11 to 14 August 2026. This oversight visit is a continuation of the committee’s commitment to resolving longstanding land and mining-related issues in the Madibeng area, following its initial oversight visit in March 2026.
During the March oversight, the committee engaged with stakeholders that included Sogima Mining Ltd, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, the Black Mamba community, and various government departments. The engagement addressed delays in the relocation of a settlement from mining land in Mooinooi Ward 27, Marikana.
Committee chairperson, Mr Mpho Modise, said despite commitments made in March, critical reports and documents remain outstanding and the relocation process has not been finalised which have resulted in a three-year delay in mining activities.
“The upcoming visit will bring together all stakeholders including the North West Provincial Legislature wherein the committees intend to facilitate a final resolution of the matter and ensure effective inter-governmental cooperation.
Details of the oversight are as follows:
Date: 11 – 14 August 2026
Time: 10:00
Venue: Legislature Building, Mmabatho, North West Province
