Parliament, Monday, 17 August 2026 – The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) will tomorrow receive a briefing from the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) on proclamations, criminal referrals, investigations, prosecutions and asset recovery efforts arising from matters investigated by the SIU. The briefing will include updates on the recommendations of the Judicial Commission on State Capture on referrals and prosecutions made by former Chief Justice Zondo.
The committee will assess progress in the investigation and prosecution of corruption-related matters, outcomes of finalised cases, the recovery of state assets and funds, and the effectiveness of coordination among law enforcement agencies in dealing with matters referred by the SIU.
The Chairperson of SCOPA, Mr Songezo Zibi, said the committee is focused on ensuring accountability and strengthening oversight of institutions responsible for investigating and prosecuting corruption.
“South Africans expect public institutions tasked with fighting corruption to show tangible progress in investigations, prosecutions, and asset recovery. This briefing will enable the committee to scrutinise the work of the SIU, NPA and DPCI, assess challenges that may be impeding progress, and ensure that those responsible for wrongdoing are held accountable. Effective collaboration between these institutions is essential to restoring public confidence and protecting public resources.”
