Parliament, Tuesday, 31 March 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration will tomorrow (Wednesday) receive update reports on provinces’ progress in implementing lifestyle audits.

Provinces, including Gauteng, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northwest and the Western Cape will brief the committee on this. The briefing follows another one received last week from the Special Investigating Unit and the Department of Public Service and Administration on lifestyle audits.

These audits are an important lever for strengthening accountability and promoting ethical conduct among public servants. The President first punted lifestyle audits for the public service during the debate of his 2018 State of the Nation Address (SONA). These audits help ensure that public servants’ lifestyles match their income and combat corruption. From 1 April 2022, they became mandatory for all national and provincial departments.
