Parliament, Tuesday, 9 June 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration will receive a briefing tomorrow on efforts underway to strengthen merit-based appointments of accounting officers.
The Department of Public Service and Administration’s briefing will also focus on compliance with minimum qualification and experience requirements, areas of non-compliance and associated governance risks. It will also outline measures to strengthen accountability, enforcement and consequence management in support of an ethical, capable and developmental state.
The committee will also receive a briefing from the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation on progress with reducing the frequency of turnover and acting appointments among Accounting Officers in the public service.
