Parliament, Tuesday, 11 August 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training will tomorrow, 12 August, receive a briefing from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) on progress in stabilising the entity since the administration period.
The engagement takes place after an intervention on the part of the Minister of Higher Education and Training, who placed the entity under administration on 4 May 2026 and appointed Professor Hlengani Mathebula as the administrator.
The intervention followed findings that governance instability, operational failures, financial weaknesses, unresolved appeals, ICT deficiencies, accommodation challenges and accountability concerns were seriously undermining NSFAS’s effectiveness.
