Parliament, Sunday, 12 October 2025 – The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education will from tomorrow conduct oversight visits in Free State to assess the state of readiness of schools for the 2025 examination.
In addition to visiting schools in the Lejweleputswa and Fezile Dabi education districts, the committee will also hold meetings with the provincial and national Department of Basic Education, the provincial legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Education, SGBs, traditional authorities, organised labour and the South Africa Principals Association.
Tomorrow and Tuesday the committee will visit various schools in Lejweleputswa district, while Wednesday and Thursday have been reserved for oversight visits to schools in the Fezile Dabi district and meetings with the office of the Auditor-General and the Ministry and Department of Education, including the Internal Audit unit of the department.
The committee will visit the following schools in Lejweleputswa: on Monday - Welkom Secondary School, Edmund Rice Independent School, Orion Special School and Anker Farm School. On Tuesday: Seabo Primary School, Lenakeng Technical School, Mmantshebo Primary School and Welkom Volkskool.
On Wednesday, Fezile Dabi schools: H M Mthombeni Secondary School, Thuto Ke Lesedi Technical School, Fakkel Special School, Weiveld Agricultural School. On Thursday: Willow Archers Independent School, Boikemisetso Primary School and Afrikaanse Hoerskool, Sasolburg
On Friday, the committee will hold a meeting with the national Department of Basic Education, Free State Provincial Department of Education, Free State provincial legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Education, SGB associations, traditional authorities, organised labour and SA Principals Association at Leeuspruit Primary School in Sasolburg.
