Parliament, Friday, 1 December 2023 - The Portfolio Committee on Police will this afternoon at 14:00 be briefed by the South African Police Service’s nine provincial commissioners on the implementation of infrastructure and capital works projects, leases and conditions of police stations, the safer festive season campaign and reports on the functioning of community policing forums.

The meeting will form part of the committee’s three-day oversight visit to Gauteng and Limpopo. The purpose of these public hearings is for the committee to visit selected police stations that have been under construction for a long time. The committee has raised concern about the slow pace of police station construction throughout the sixth Parliament, which often results in a significant escalation in building costs.

In Limpopo, the committee will visit the Muyaxe, Bolobedu and Mankweng police stations on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
