Parliament, Thursday, 26 February 2026 – The Select Committee on Public Petitions and Executive Undertakings will conduct oversight visits to Khutsong and Emfuleni Local Municipality in Gauteng from 27 to 28 February 2026 to assess progress in addressing community concerns raised in petitions.
On Friday, 27 February 2026, the committee will visit Khutsong for an inspection following a petition calling for the area to be declared a national disaster area due to increasing sinkholes. The committee will assess the situation and receive progress reports from relevant authorities. On Saturday, 28 February 2026, the committee will visit Emfuleni Local Municipality following a petition from residents and businesses requesting intervention regarding Eskom’s inadequate maintenance of electricity infrastructure, which resulted in persistent power outages.
The committee Chairperson, Mr Ofentse Mokae, said the visits are aimed at ensuring accountability and monitoring progress. “The committee will assess the progress made in addressing the concerns raised by communities and determine whether appropriate action has been taken by relevant authorities,” said Mr Mokae.
