Parliament, Monday, 16 May 2022 – The Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture will tomorrow receive a briefing from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture on the monumental flag that is said to cost around R22 million.

The monumental flag concept was revealed during the department’s Budget Vote debate by Minister Nathi Mthethwa. According to the feasibility study, the flag is envisaged to be in Gauteng and is intended to profile the country whilst fostering social cohesion and patriotism.

The meeting will also receive responses from the South African Rugby regarding questions that could not be responded to in March, that included the matter of Mr Jurie Roux’s ongoing matter with the Stellenbosch University, and payment of his legal fees.

Details of the meeting are as follows:
Date: 17 May
Time: 9h00
Venue: Virtual platform
