Parliament, Monday, 20 November 2023 – The Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy will from tomorrow conduct public hearings on the Electricity Regulations Amendment (ERA) Bill [B13-2023] in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The hearings will take place at Amajuba, uThukela, Harry Gwala and iLembe district municipalities. KZN is the eighth province that the committee is visiting after it successfully conducted hearings in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Northern Cape, Free State, Gauteng and Western Cape provinces.
These public hearings are conducted in line with section 59(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, which requires the National Assembly to facilitate public involvement in the legislative and other processes of the Assembly and its committees. Members of the media are invited to attend the public hearings.
The ERA Bill seeks, amongst other things, to effect amendments to the Electricity Regulation Act in order to improve its administration; to provide for the establishment of the Transmission System Operator SOC Ltd and also to provide for an open-market platform that will allow for competitive electricity trading.

Time: 10:00 – 14:00
Venue: KwaDukuza Town Hall (KwaDukuza Local Municiaplity)
