Parliament, Tuesday, 29 March 2021 – Limpopo’s permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will, together with their provincial counterparts, conduct site visits to projects in Sekhukhune District over the next two days as part of the NCOP’s Provincial Week programme in the province.

On Wednesday, the delegation and MPLs will visit the Flag Boshielo Bulkwater System, Tompi Seleka College of Agriculture and Mogalatjane Irrigation Scheme in the Marble Hall area and the access road to Leolo communities in the Schoonoord area.

On Thursday, they will visit the De Hoop Dam, the Tubatse single-lane steel bridge and low-lying bridge at the Thorncliffe river in Steelport, the Tswelopele Irrigation Scheme and the Maroga bulkwater supply.

The purpose of the visits is to assess the province’s capacity to address structural constraints facing small-scale farmers and SMMEs, especially in the agricultural sector, to assist them to deal with biophysical factors, such land ownership, market access and affordable support to deal with the price of inputs such as fertiliser, herbicides, irrigation, product transport, and other natural constraints, such as global warming.

The 2022 Provincial Week is a high-impact oversight programme aimed at responding to the challenges of state capacity in the provinces. It is further intended to afford Permanent NCOP Delegates with an opportunity to return to their provinces to assess service delivery.
