Parliament, Sunday, 23 February 2025 The Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development will embark on an oversight visit to KwaZulu-Natal to assess the state of governance challenges at the Ingonyama Trust and possible interventions, including the state of governance of the subsidiary of the Trust.

The committee will engage with various stakeholders including provincial government departments, Ingonyama Trust Board, land reform beneficiaries as well as an audience with His Majesty, King MisuZulu KaZwelithini, as the Sole Trustee of the Ingonyama Trust.

The Ingonyama Trust Board (ITB), Schedule 3A Public Entity, has faced many
challenges and the committee will interact with all the relevant stakeholders on how the issues could be resolved, including legislative proposals.

The committee will also engage the stakeholders on the implementation of the relevant legislation and policies regarding disbursement of funds to deserving communities living on the Ingonyama Trust land. Furthermore, track progress in the infrastructure development programme to support land development for Makhathini, including the interventions to construct a mill in the area.
