Parliament, Sunday, 12 October 2025 – The Joint Standing Committee on Defence (JSCD) and the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans (PCDMV) will undertake an oversight visit to Limpopo Province from 13-16 October 2025 to assess the operational readiness, morale, and resource allocation of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
The committee will be evaluating the impact of reduced funding on the Air Force’s combat capabilities and the maintenance of aircraft fleets and to gauge troop morale, operational challenges, and lessons from recent deployments to the Democratic Republic of the Congo under the United Nations Mission (MONUSCO). The committee will also focus its attention on the SANDF’S role in border security and coordination with other government departments for effective border management.
The oversight visits form part of Parliament’s constitutional responsibility to ensure effective oversight of the SANDF and to promote accountability in the utilisation of defence resources. It also aligns with strategic priorities identified during the committees’ 2025 strategic planning sessions, particularly regarding force readiness, sustainability, and national security.
