Parliament, Tuesday, 26 May 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour will tomorrow, Wednesday, 27 May 2026, receive a progress report from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on delayed UIF payments to former SA Cloth Factory workers in Qwa-Qwa, Free State.

The committee is concerned about the prolonged delays experienced by former workers in accessing UIF benefits following the liquidation of SA Cloth Factory in December 2022, whereby approximately 1 640 workers were affected.

The committee will also receive a joint briefing from the UIF and the Compensation Fund on progress with the Department of Employment and Labour’s (DEL) unbundling and reconfiguration, a project which seeks to establish the UIF and Compensation Fund as standalone Schedule 3A public entities under the Public Finance Management Act.
