Parliament, Sunday, 1 February 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Electricity and Energy will undertake a four-day oversight visit to Limpopo and Gauteng from Monday, 2 February, to Thursday, 5 February 2026, in alignment with the Oversight Priority Plan of the Seventh Parliament.
The oversight visit will focus on the Integrated National Electrification Programme (INEP), coordinated nationally by the Department of Electricity and Energy. Since its inception in the 2001/2002 financial year, the programme has facilitated connections for over 8.4 million households, through both grid and non-grid technologies, with expenditure exceeding R110 billion. Despite these achievements, the programme continues to face challenges, including underperforming municipalities and constrained budget allocations.
In addition, the committee will receive a workshop briefing on the Electricity Regulation Act, as amended, signed into law by President Cyril Ramaphosa in August 2024. The visit will also include engagements with Eskom and the National Transmission Company of South Africa (NTCSA) at Megawatt Park, Gauteng.
