Parliament, Monday, 27 April 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services will tomorrow commence with its oversight visit to correctional facilities in Mpumalanga, starting off at the Nelspruit Correctional Centre.
The Chairperson of the committee, Ms Kgomotso Anthea Ramolobeng, said the facilities to be visited during the week-long oversight visit programme have been carefully identified to ensure proper oversight of the department.
She said the visit aims to cover different areas of the correctional system, including sentenced male adult inmates, sentenced females and mothers with babies, as well as remand detainees.
The committee will pay specific focus on the conditions of detention for both remand and sentenced inmates; the overall Infrastructure of correctional centres, rehabilitation and skills programmes provided to offenders; as well as the treatment and conditions for female offenders including mothers with babies.
Details of the programme for tomorrow (28 April) are as follows:
08h30: Delegation departs for Nelspruit Correctional Centre.
08h40: Delegation arrives at Nelspruit Correctional Centre.
08h45: Welcome and introductions
09h00: Tour of the centres.
13h30: Briefing session (questions & answers).
