Parliament, Monday, 10 May 2021 – The Portfolio Committee on Social Development will tomorrow hold public hearings on Children’s Amendment Bill. The Amendment of the Children’s Bill coincides with shifting of the function of the Early Child Development to the Department of Basic Education.

The purpose of the Amendment of the Children’s Amendment Bill seeks to strengthen and improve protection for children, and address critical gaps in child care and deal with challenges relating to the provision and administration of foster care.

Among the stakeholders that will present to the committee on Day 1 are Equal Education Law Centre, the Universities of Stellenbosch and Cape Town, Childline South Africa, the Legal Resource Centre and the Centre for Early Childhood Development.
