Parliament, Wednesday, 10 November 2021 – The Portfolio Committee on Social Development will tomorrow, Thursday 11 November 2021, hold the second leg of public hearings on the Children’s Amendment Bill [B18 -2020] in the Eastern Cape Province. The Chris Hani District Municipality’s Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (Queenstown) will host the hearings.

The committee kick-started the first leg of the hearings successfully in the OR Tambo District Municipality yesterday, where residents used the opportunity presented to them by the committee to express their views on the Bill.

The Bill is intended to, among other things, improve child foster care services; resolve the parental responsibilities of unmarried fathers; and services to children born to foreign parents and unaccompanied migrant children.

As Covid-19 pandemic is still alive and threatening people’s lives, the committee calls for strict adherence to health protocols at all the venues where public hearings will take place.

Details of the public hearings are as follows:

Date: 11 November 2021
Venue: Queenstown Indoor Sport and Recreation Centre, Queenstown
Time: 10:00 – 15:00
