Parliament, Monday, 6 December 2021 – The Portfolio Committee on Social Development will from tomorrow, 7-10 December 2021, hold public hearings on the Children’s Amendment Bill [B18 -2020] in the Western Cape. The hearings are part of a nationwide process to get the views of the public on the Bill.

The Bill seeks to, among other things, strengthen the protective measures for children and to close gaps in the child protection system. Furthermore, it is intended to improve foster care services, and resolve parental responsibilities of unmarried fathers and services to children born to foreign parents and unaccompanied migrant children.

The districts to be visited are: West Coast, Central Karoo and Garden Route, as well as the Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality. Tomorrow, the committee visits the West Coast Municipality.
