Parliament, Thursday, 26 February 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) will meet tomorrow to discuss two petitions involving communities in municipalities, including the Bela-Bela and Ba-Phalaborwa local municipalities.
First, the committee will receive a presentation from Ms Desiree Van Der Walt on a petition on behalf of the residents of the Bela-Bela, Modimolle-Mookgophong and Thabazimbi local municipalities, calling on the National Assembly to investigate the lack of service delivery in their communities. The three local municipalities will also provide input.
The committee will also hear from Mr Roger Ferguson of the community-based organisation Let’s Change Ba-Phalaborwa regarding the petition requesting national intervention in the governance of the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality and the Mopani District Municipality due to ongoing failures in service delivery. The presentation will be followed by input from the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality and the Mopani District Municipality, Lepelle Northern Water, and the Provincial Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs in Limpopo.
