Parliament, Monday, 5 October 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) will tomorrow receive briefings from key local government entities, including the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

SALGA will brief the committee on its Annual Report for the 2025/26 financial year. The briefing will also cover the association’s capacity-building programmes that will follow the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The Chairperson of the committee, Dr Zweli Mkhize, last week said the committee will need ongoing reports on professionalisation efforts in local government. He said training and professionalisation must produce visible improvements in the performance of municipalities.

The committee will also be briefed by the Municipal Demarcation Board on its annual report for the 2025/26 financial year.

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL) will also brief the committee on its annual report, while Members will also consider a report on the status of Afrikaans Hip Hop.
