Parliament, Monday, 16 March 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) will hold a follow-up meeting tomorrow with the uThukela District Municipality and the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality.
This follows the committee’s oversight visit to municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal in January this year. The oversight identified several governance, financial management, and service delivery concerns that required further reporting and corrective action by the municipalities.
The committee will assess tomorrow what the municipalities have done to fix the issues members had identified and decide on the next steps.
Members will receive a presentation by the leadership of uThukela District Municipality on its finances and ongoing efforts to address issues, including non-payment of creditors and unfunded budgets, among other issues. They will also be briefed on how the leadership of the Inkosi Langalibalele municipality is addressing issues related to virtual council meetings, among others.
