Parliament, Monday, 16 March 2026 – In line with its commitment to participatory democracy, the Standing Committee on Appropriations will hold a public hearing on the 2026 Division of Revenue Bill in KwaZulu-Natal.
Following the Minister of Finance’s tabling of the 2026 Division of Revenue Bill in February, the Appropriations Committee’s public hearing aims to give stakeholders and members of the public an opportunity to make oral or written submissions on the Bill. The Bill determines the equitable division of nationally raised revenue among the three spheres of government.
Committee Chairperson Dr Mmusi Maimane emphasised the importance of receiving public submissions to truly be a “people’s budget”. “Our job is not only to focus on fiscal discipline and engagements with government departments. We are engaging citizens directly. This public hearing is scheduled so that we received inputs from all interested stakeholders and any member of the public is welcome to come and participate because ultimately, it is not your money or my money. It is the citizens’ money.”
The details of the public hearing are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 17 March 2026
Time: 09:00 – 16:00
Venue: Westville Civic Centre, EThekwini Metropolitan Municipality
