Parliament, Thursday, 6 August 2026 – The Acting Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, will tomorrow address a National Women’s Day reception which will be hosted by the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Cape Town, Mr Ren Faqiang, and Madame Ma Ning, in celebration of South Africa’s National Women’s Day.
The reception commemorates the 70th anniversary of the historic 1956 Women’s March, honouring the courage, resilience and leadership of the South African women while reaffirming the enduring friendship between South Africa and the People’s Republic of China.
In her address, Dr Nkabane is expected to reflect on the significance of National Women’s Day, celebrate the progress made in advancing women’s rights and representation since the advent of democracy, and reaffirm Parliament’s commitment to promoting gender equality and the socio-economic empowerment of women.
The Acting Chairperson is also expected to highlight the important contribution of women to South Africa’s democratic development, agriculture, economic growth and nation-building, while recognising the need to continue addressing the challenges that impede the full and equal participation of women in all sectors of society.
The event provides an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic relations between South Africa and China through shared recognition of the important role women play in building inclusive, equitable and prosperous societies.
