Parliament, Monday, 8 June 2026 - The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture will tomorrow, Tuesday 9 June, receive briefings from the Department of Agriculture and the National Agricultural Marketing Council on progress made in implementing the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP), as well as an update on government’s response to the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak and the national vaccination drive.

The committee will assess progress in implementing the AAMP, which aims to drive transformation, inclusive growth, investment, market access and job creation across agricultural value chains. The briefing is also expected to outline ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination structures, support black farmers, improve farmer registration systems and enhance collaboration between national and provincial stakeholders in implementing the Master Plan.

The committee will also receive an update on the current FMD situation, including reported outbreaks in provinces, vaccine procurement and distribution, vaccination progress, diagnostic capacity expansion and measures to strengthen veterinary and animal health capacity to contain the disease.
