Parliament, Thursday, 26 May 2022 – The Ad Hoc Joint Committee on Flood Disaster Relief and Recovery will this weekend (27 – 30 May 2022) conduct oversight visits in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province.

The committee noted the urgency of undertaking an oversight visit to Kwazulu-Natal to assess the impact and devastation wrought to communities, businesses and infrastructure by the flooding disasters that occurred in April 2022.

The site visits will factor in the enormity of the damage and destruction, and further evaluate the extent to which national and provincial departments responded to the initial call by President Ramaphosa on the immediate humanitarian relief, ensuring that all affected people were safe and with their basic needs met. The visits will also assess whether there has been stabilisation and recovery, which includes rehousing people who have lost homes and restoring the provision of services. The visit will also evaluate the progress on reconstruction and rebuilding.
