Parliament, Tuesday, 15 October 2024 – The Minister of Transport, Ms Barbara Creecy, will deliver an Executive Statement on providing a safe, fully integrated transport operations and infrastructure system that meets the needs of freight and passenger customers.

Executive statements are statements made by Cabinet members or the relevant Deputy Minister on behalf of that Cabinet member to make a factual or policy statement (not for party political purposes) relating to government policy, any executive action or other similar matter, of which the Assembly should be informed.

The Minister will deliver her statement in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) during a hybrid plenary session scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, 16 October, at 14:00.

When delivering the executive statement, the Minister is also expected to brief the NCOP Permanent Delegates on measures the department has taken to improve service delivery and the associated cost to support the national government’s socio-economic and social development strategies.

As part of its agenda, the sitting will also debate World Food Day and International Day for the Eradication of Poverty under the theme: “United in Action to address the impacts of persistent poverty and hunger.”

Meanwhile, at its sitting tomorrow, the National Assembly (NA) will consider the Budgetary Review and Recommendation Reports (BRRRs) of various national departments and government entities virtually.

The BRRR system is a crucial oversight method that enables parliamentary portfolio committees to integrate and consolidate budgetary oversight with other oversight work related to service delivery. Parliament uses the BRRR practice to provide an opportunity for an in-depth assessment of the national government departments’ service delivery performances, which may include recommendations on the future use of resources.
