Parliament, Monday, 8 September 2025 – President Cyril Ramaphosa will answer oral questions from members of the National Assembly tomorrow (Tuesday).

These oral question and answer sessions with the President are scheduled at least once a quarter. They are one of the mechanisms Parliament uses to hold the executive to account, as stipulated in Section 92(2) of the Constitution, which states that members of the executive are accountable, both collectively and individually, to Parliament for exercising powers and performing their functions.

During the session, up to five questions on national or international issues may be asked. The President is scheduled to address the following topics during the hybrid sitting tomorrow:

  • The imposition of the 30% tariffs on South Africa by the United States under President Donald Trump.
  • The establishment of a state bank, including the licensing of the Post Bank, as referenced in his 9 February 2023 State of the Nation Address.
  • Whether the outcomes of the National Dialogue are intended to support the government’s priorities, including economic growth, poverty reduction, job creation, and reducing the cost of living.
  • Government’s commitment to tackling the national crisis of gender-based violence.
