Parliament, Wednesday, 30 March 2022 – The Northern Cape Province’s permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will tomorrow, Thursday 31 March, split into two groups when the delegation continue with its Provincial Week oversight programme.

Group A will travel to Port Nolloth and hold a briefing session on water provision and sanitation with the Ritchtersveld District Municipality at the the Port Nolloth Municipal Chambers. Later in the day, the group will visit water purification plants and areas affected by the drought. They will conclude the business of the day with an oversight visit to Infrastructure and Economic sites at Boegoebaai. .

Group B will travel to Springbok and hold a briefing session with the Nama Khoi District Municipality on the assistance given to communities affected by drought and the impact of locust on the district. The group will conclude the business for the day with an oversight visit to infrastructure and economic sites in Vedanta.

The 2022 Northern Cape Provincial Week programme is mainly focusing on the provision of safe drinking water and how to assist communities affected by the drought that has brought hardship in the province for many years. The delegation is prioritising oversight visits to water provision projects, dams, water reticulation sites and provincial storage weirs.
