Parliament, Monday, 28 March 2022 – Permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) from KwaZulu-Natal will tomorrow undertake an oversight visit to the province. The visits form part of the NCOP’s Provincial Week programme, where Members of Parliament undertake a week-long (29 March to 1 April 2022) visit to their respective provinces to conduct oversight.

KwaZulu-Natal’s focus for this year is to assess the capacity of the South African Police Service (SAPS) to fight crime, including the state of police stations in townships and rural areas, and their resourcing.

Provincial Week 2022 is a high-impact oversight programme aimed at responding to the challenges of state capacity in the provinces.

TUESDAY, 29 MARCH 2022
Venue: KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature
Time: 9h00 -13h00
Hybrid briefing on state capacity to deliver basic services and water and sanitation to communities

Time: 14h00 -17h00
Stakeholder engagement on state capacity to deliver services (functionality of police stations and challenges facing effective policing/police stations in the province)

The delegation will continue with site visits in other parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

WEDNESDAY, 30 MARCH 2022
EVENT: site visit to Manguzi Police Station in Umkhanyakude District

THURSDAY, 31 MARCH 2022
EVENT: site visits to Inanda, Montclair and Bellairs SAPS
Time: 14h00 – 18h00

FRIDAY, 1 APRIL 2022
EVENT: Site visit to Plessislaer Police Station in Umgungundlovu District
Time: 9h30 – 12h30

Thereafter the delegation will wrap up its weeklong oversight with a debriefing meeting with the provincial leadership.

EVENT: Report-back on issues emanating from the oversight visits and consideration of the provincial draft report to the NCOP on the outcomes of the 2022 Provincial Week.
