Parliament, Wednesday, 04 December 2024 – Deputy President Paul Mashatile will appear before the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) tomorrow, Thursday, 05 December 2024, at 14:00 for his last Question-and-Answer session for the year with Permanent Delegates to the House.
His appearance is in line with section 92(2) of the Constitution, which stipulates that question-and-answer sessions are one of the mechanisms Parliament uses to hold the executive accountable, individually and collectively for their functions and performances.
The Deputy President will answer questions on various matters such as the national government support for spaza shops to combat food poisoning incidents, whether the government has considered developing mechanisms to address the growing intergovernmental debt and whether any tangible steps have been taken thus far to fast-track land reform and coordinate agricultural support programmes.

Also on Thursday, the National Assembly will hold its last plenary sitting for the year to consider the Standing Committee on Appropriations’ report on the Special Appropriation Bill, the 2024 Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement and the Adjustments Appropriation Bill. This will be followed by the farewell speeches before the NA Members of Parliament go for the 2024 December – January 2025 constituency and leave period.
