Parliament, Tuesday, 14 July 2026 – Parliament will host the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Cape Town from 13 to 18 September 2026 and invites members of the media to apply for accreditation to cover this prestigious event.
The conference, organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), will be held under the theme: “Promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue for inclusive, fair trade in diverse economies, addressing inequality and underdevelopment in the Commonwealth and beyond.”
The six-day gathering will bring together a global parliamentary community of Speakers, Members of Parliament, parliamentary officials and governance experts from across the CPA’s nine geographical regions, which include Africa, Asia, Australia, the British Islands and the Mediterranean, Canada, the Caribbean, the Americas and the Atlantic, India and South Asia.
The CPA is an international association of Commonwealth parliamentarians established in 1911 to promote parliamentary democracy, good governance and cooperation among legislatures across the Commonwealth. It is dedicated to advancing parliamentary democracy by strengthening the knowledge, capacity and cooperation of legislatures worldwide.
The conference marks a significant moment for South Africa’s strategic engagement with the international community. It provides an opportunity to showcase Parliament’s work, engage in high-level international dialogue on pressing economic and social issues and highlight the nation’s developmental progress, challenges and contributions to multilateral governance.
Beyond the main plenary sessions, the 69th CPC will host a robust programme of specialised meetings and events designed to foster inclusive governance, including:
• 2026 CPA General Assembly and General Debate;
• Meetings of the CPA Executive Committee; • Interactive CPC workshops;
• The 42nd CPA Small Branches Conference; • The 10th Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference;
• Meetings of the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities;
• The 60th Society of Clerks-at-the-Table commonly known as the SoCATT;
• Presentation of the 2026 Commonwealth Parliamentarian of the Year Awards; and
• The 4th CPA Emilia Monjowa Lifaka Lecture.
