Tuesday, 15 August 2017 – The High Level Panel on the Assessment of Key Legislation and Acceleration of Fundamental Change, chaired by former President Kgalema Motlanthe, will today and Wednesday hold a 2nd workshop to finalise its report for handover to the Speakers’ Forum and Parliament in September.

Due to the volume of information gathered through public consultations across the country and the importance of the work that the Panel has been charged with, it has been necessary to hold a second workshop to ensure that the recommendations are dealt with in the depth that they deserve in a variety of subject areas including, poverty, unemployment, land reform, social cohesion and nation building.

Today’s workshop, will be facilitated by veteran parliamentarian, Professor Ben Turok. The Chairpersons of the three focus areas will present their final recommendations for consideration by the Panel

The Panel, appointed by the Speakers’ Forum, is in the final stages leading to the adoption of the report. Speakers Forum is the structure of the South African Parliament and the Provincial Legislatures.

The two-day workshop is not open to the media, however interviews will be arranged between the Panel Chairperson and interested media.
