Parliament, Sunday, 8 March 2026 – Question-and-Answer sessions with the President and Ministers in the Social Services Cluster, a Ministerial Statement and consideration of committee oversight reports are among the items scheduled for the parliamentary programme this week. Earlier in the week, Ministers from the Social Services Cluster will appear before both Houses of Parliament to respond to questions from Members.
On Tuesday at 14:00, the Ministers of Basic Education and Higher Education will provide oral replies to questions from NCOP Permanent Delegates.
In the National Assembly, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development will make a Ministerial Statement on the 30-year anniversary of the Constitution. During this sitting, the House will consider members’ statements and several committee reports, including the Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services' reports on the Oversight visit to Zonderwater Training College and Zonderwater Correctional Centre, and a follow-up oversight visit to Pollsmoor Correctional Centre. At the same sitting, the NA will also hold a debate on International Women’s Day.
On Wednesday at 15:00, the Social Services Cluster Ministers responsible for Health, Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Social Development, Sport, Arts and Culture, Basic Education, and Higher Education and Training will appear in a question-and-answer session in the NA.
On the same day in the NCOP at 14:00, a debate sponsored by the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party is scheduled on Border Management under the theme: Towards improved intergovernmental coordination in Border Management: “Meeting humanitarian and service delivery obligations.” This hybrid sitting will also consider committee reports and deal with motions and legislation before the House.
On Thursday at 14:00, President Cyril Ramaphosa will appear before a plenary of the National Assembly to reply to oral questions from Members on matters of national importance. At the same time, in the NCOP, Ministers of Health and Social Development (Social Services Cluster 2B) will appear for oral replies to questions by the Permanent Delegates.
Questions for Oral Reply are one of the key mechanisms Parliament uses to hold the Executive accountable. During these sessions, Members of Parliament can question the President, Deputy President and Cabinet Ministers directly about the exercise of their powers and the performance of their functions. Under Section 92 of the Constitution, members of the Cabinet are accountable, collectively and individually, to Parliament and must provide regular and full reports on matters of national public importance under their responsibility.
