Parliament, Sunday 07 August 2022 – On Wednesday at 14:00, the NCOP will convene a virtual debate on National Women’s Day. The debate is aimed at commemorating the historic Women's Day, which marks the anniversary of the great women's march of 1956, where about 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings to protest against the carrying of pass books.

Following the surge in illegal mining, or Zama Zamas, and the unprecedented high levels of criminality and violence in the communities that are adjacent to areas with illegal mining activities, the NCOP will on Thursday from 10am to 15:00 host a ministerial briefing session on the issue.

The briefing will provide the NCOP with an opportunity to engage with the relevant Ministers, such as the ministers of Mineral Resources and Energy, Police and Home Affairs, on measures to wage a concerted battle against illegal mining and restore law and order in the affected communities.

The National Assembly (NA) is scheduled to resume its program on 15 August, however one of its committees, Committee for Section 194 Enquiry, is continuing with its business of probing Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office as the Public Protector of the Republic of South Africa.
