Parliament, Monday 10 November 2023 – Deputy President Paul Mashatile will be in Parliament tomorrow, Tuesday 11 November at 14:00, to reply to oral questions in the National Assembly (NA).
According to the NA rules, questions to the Deputy President must be scheduled once a month when Parliament is in session. The rules also specify that questions must be limited to six, and the total time allowed is three hours, including supplementary questions. Questions addressed to the Deputy President must be submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly at least 16 calendar days prior to the question day on which they are to be answered, for the Speaker’s approval to ensure they comply with the rules and guidelines of the NA’s Rules Committee.
Section 92(2) of the Constitution stipulates that Cabinet members are accountable collectively and individually to Parliament for the exercise of powers and performance of their functions. Parliament uses a range of instruments to hold the executive accountable, which include putting questions to the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa.
