Parliament, Wednesday, 29 October 2025 – Deputy President Paul Mashatile will tomorrow, Thursday, 30 October, appear before the National Assembly (NA) to provide oral replies to questions from Members of Parliament.
The plenary forms part of Parliament’s constitutional mandate to hold the executive accountable. In terms of Section 92(2) of the Constitution, Cabinet members are collectively and individually accountable to Parliament for the exercise of their powers and the performance of their functions.
The six questions scheduled for the Deputy President during tomorrow’s sitting cover a range of important governance and policy matters, including:
- Crime Prevention and Intelligence: Have interventions to strengthen crime intelligence in the South African Police Service (SAPS) to combat gangsterism and other forms of violent crime been effective?
- HIV and Gender Disparities: The impact of government strategies to address the disproportionate HIV prevalence among women and girls.
- Municipal Governance: In light of the Deputy President’s delegated responsibility to oversee rapid response interventions in service delivery and address service delivery hotspots, and given the ongoing challenges in municipal governance, what are the reasons for the lack of notable improvement in some municipalities since he assumed this role?
- Land Reform and Agricultural Development: What performance targets have been set to achieve land reform and agricultural development since the formation of the Government of National Unity, and integrated approach is being developed [JH2] by the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) to holistically support infrastructure development in rural areas to promote the growth of the agricultural sector.
