Parliament, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 – The Portfolio Committee on Communications has elected a new Chairperson, Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize, following the appointment of the previous Chairperson, Mr Humphrey Maxegwana, to the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interest.
Prof Mkhize thanked all members of the committee for their confidence in her. “I am excited to join this team and hope that we will work together along different political party lines,” she said.
At the same time, the committee also adopted the Budget Review and Recommendation Report (BRRR) and clarified its position with regards to the proposal by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to retrench workers.
“The SABC must first come and provide a detailed report on its consultation process regarding possible implementation of Section 189 of the Labour Relations Act, including all other avenues,” said Prof Mkhize.
