Parliament, Friday, 29 May 2020 – The Portfolio Committee on Transport notes and welcomes the number of senior appointments at the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa).
The Chairperson of the committee, Mr Mosebenzi Zwane, said the committee hoped stability at senior management level would change the entity for the better. “We are here to support the entity, all attempts aimed at making Prasa realise the vision it was founded for are welcomed. It is the committee’s long-held view that a functioning Prasa is desirable for South Africa,” said Mr Zwane.
Prasa Administrator, Mr Bongi Mpondo, had earlier announced the permanent appointments of Nosipho Damasane (Chief Executive Officer of Prasa Rail), Hishaam Emeran (Chief Executive Officer of Prasa Technical), Neil Roesch (Chief Executive Officer, Autopax), David Mphelo (Group Chief Information Officer), and Sandile Dlamini (Group Company Secretary).
The committee trusts that these appointments will not only stabilise corporate governance, but will strengthen Covid-19 passenger rail transport plans for when the country resumes with its economic activity. On Saturday, Minister Fikile Mbalula will outline Level 3 lockdown regulations as they relate to passenger rail.
Earlier in the month, the Minister of Transport promised the committee that he would appoint a strong technical board that will see Prasa’s vision realised. The committee hopes this management team will complement the board when it is appointed.
