Parliament, Monday, 2 September 2019  The Portfolio Committee on Health will have a joint meeting with the Select Committee on Health and Social Services tomorrow.

The committee will have an engagement with the Elders, the former President of Ireland, former President of Chile, a Norwegian politician and Mrs Graca Machel on the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill (Universal Health Coverage).

The purpose of the Bill is to establish and maintain an NHI Fund, funded through mandatory prepayment that aims to achieve sustainable and affordable universal access to quality healthcare services. The fund will operate on the basis of a single purchaser and single payer of healthcare services, by pooling funds and strategic purchasing of healthcare services and goods from accredited and contracted healthcare service providers. The NHI envisages a standardised healthcare system, wherein everyone, rich and poor, rural and urban, can receive the same level of quality healthcare.

Details of the meeting:

Date : 3 September 2019
Time : 09:00
Venue : Committee Room E249, Second Floor, National Assembly Building
