Parliament, Wednesday 11 October 2017 – The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs welcomes the appointment of Mr Simon Mamabolo as the new Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

The appointment of Mr Mamabolo points to systematic succession planning within the institution and will insure skill retention. The Committee has since the inception of the fifth Parliament interacted with Mr Mamabolo in his capacity as Deputy CEO and Acting CEO and is confident that he will continue to add value and strengthen governance in his new position.

The major task that Mr Mamabolo is facing is to implement the Constitutional Court ruling of incorporating addresses into the voters roll and preparation for the 2019 national and provincial elections.

The Committee congratulates Mr Mamabolo on his appointment and wishes him well in the implementation of the IEC’s mandate as a beacon of our democracy.
